Theory is the key third member of (and main producer behind) The Package. As a huge fan of the man’s groundbreaking work, he was hard hit by the passing of Dilla four years ago (five years next February). In Theory’s words, “Dilla made some of my favorite music EVER, so I had loads of fun going back to the records he used*. Finding different pieces of songs he touched and seeing how he assembled the pieces was a great experience and gave me an even deeper respect for his talent.”
This project is Theory’s tribute to Dilla, focused mainly on revisiting the original samples Dilla made famous when he was known to beat-lovers everywhere as Jay Dee, while also revisiting the source material for several Dilla era gems. Deconstructing the original samples from such well loved Jay Dee classics as “Runnin” (by The Pharcyde) and “Get Dis Money” (by Slum Villlage) and utilizing them as remixes for The Package or as standalone instrumentals, Theory has crafted an audio letter to Dilla, delivered from your speakers “all the way to heaven”.
