Our good friend Shamus of Small Axe Films filmed an incredible video for us.
The song is “This Is Me” from our first album “New Golden Era”, a slick Theory-produced joint with timeless appeal. D.C. is a beautiful city and the video was shot in one day in some of our favorite spots. Our new album “The ‘IT’ Factor” is almost done so we’re going back (for any who don’t know) before we go forward with a free download of “New Golden Era”. Check out the vid, get the album and enjoy! Thanks for all your support over the years!! Click to Download ‘New Golden Era’ here, FREE!!
With Respect,
THE PACKAGE
Theory, Dimensions and Noyeek
Happy Monday!! Me(Theory), Dimensions and Noyeek try to make music every Monday…If nothing else we build our friendship and skills with these sessions, and, for the first time, you get to sit in. I’m on my new toy, a sick drum pad, groovin with the sticks and foot pedal to a dope cover of The Carpenters “We’ve only just begun”. Dimension and Grizz light it up with some verses…It’s worth a look! No practice..I threw the camera up and pressed record… Let us know what you think! This could be the new Monday tradition! Everyone have a great week and we’ll see u next Monday with another session!
Theory is the key third member of (and main producer behind) The Package. As a huge fan of the man’s groundbreaking work, he was hard hit by the passing of Dilla four years ago (five years next February). In Theory’s words, “Dilla made some of my favorite music EVER, so I had loads of fun going back to the records he used*. Finding different pieces of songs he touched and seeing how he assembled the pieces was a great experience and gave me an even deeper respect for his talent.”
This project is Theory’s tribute to Dilla, focused mainly on revisiting the original samples Dilla made famous when he was known to beat-lovers everywhere as Jay Dee, while also revisiting the source material for several Dilla era gems. Deconstructing the original samples from such well loved Jay Dee classics as “Runnin” (by The Pharcyde) and “Get Dis Money” (by Slum Villlage) and utilizing them as remixes for The Package or as standalone instrumentals, Theory has crafted an audio letter to Dilla, delivered from your speakers “all the way to heaven”. Stream the whole project via the player above or download the project here. Enjoy!
*Special thanks to http://hiphopisread.com for supplying the original sample sources upon which this project was based. What may appear to the untrained ear to be simple loops when hearing this source material actually represented meticulous reconstructions by Dilla.
Grizz found the perfect location for us to shoot the video for “The Bar”, so we rolled out there and shot it, DIY style, with my $199 camera. I edited this with iMovie, so this was a gritty affair (think: the video for “Protect Ya Neck”). This is the first video I ever directed (with some input from Theory and Dial Tone, a lot of which didn’t make the final cut). I think it came out pretty well. This song is produced by Dimensions and features Noyeek the Grizzly Bear (Grizz) and can be downloaded for free at http://thepackage.bandcamp.com/track/the-bar
The cast of the video includes Dimensions, Grizz, and Theory of The Package, Dial Tone (Team Demolition), Trickstar (Depth Charge Recordings), Pro Chi (Amphibians), and the children of Dimes, Theory and Pro Chi.
After years of dropping dope verses in The Package and with Infinite Loop, Dimensions has finally released his solo debut, a 21 track opus entitled “Slanguage: A Brain Cell.e.bration”.
A little birdie even told me that people who order now get free bonus tracks! Whoo-ha! All that for just $10! Get your order on, people!
Roughly three fourths of the album is produced by Theory (who produced the entirety of “New Golden Era”), with additional powerful contributions from Mr. HU (“Chardonnay”, “Reddish Eyes” and bonus cut “Dee Dot 1.5″), Slimkat78 (“Therapy” and bonus cut “Dimes 10.0″), Team Demolition (“Third Sunday In June”) and Dimensions himself (“message Saved 2″, “Message Saved 3″ and co-producing “Trigger Treat”). The album also features guest appearances from Noyeek the Grizzly Bear, Kokayi (QN5), Nazz, Soul, and Jack Danger (also featured on the bridge of The Package’s biggest hit so far, “Making Waves”). This is another new golden era modern day classic! Don’t sleep!
ps: Yes, I know the artist listed under the player says “The Package” instead of “Dimensions a/k/a Dimes”. It’s a little glitch in the Bandcamp page setup that I can’t get around at the moment. I will be in touch with them to work on it, though.
pps: Special shoutout to illustrator DeAndre Truesdale of DarkWater Enterprises for the incredible hand painted cover!
Brooklynites and a nice-sized contigent of DMV fans who made the up north trip showed love to The Package at this event in Brooklyn. This was The Package’s second show in New York and we received a warm welcome and had a great time!
Shout out to the other performers of the night, LeJae (NYC) and Goon Squad (DMV), who performed in that order, with The Package closing out the night. Both acts had very supportive fans who stayed most of the night (a nice departure from the unfortunate case when fans leave after their favorite act finishes).
Watch Part 1 and Part 2 of The Package decimating the stage at Almaz above. The crowd was hype and Enoch got them even hyper with his “1, 2, 3 Theory drop that shit!” chant in Part 2…
The song order is as follows:
What You Sipping On?
Your Time Is Up
Cold World
Final Warning (feat. Enoch 7th Prophet)
__
“Final Warning”, of course, is still available for free download as part of the 20 track “Double R: Remixes and Rarities” project at http://tinyurl.com/pkgrmx2
The first three songs will be included on the forthcoming second album from The Package, “The It Factor”
As you can see above, yesterday marked yet another successful strike in The Package’s campaign to take over the DMV, from Richmond to Baltimore! I just had a poll on Twitter about whether Baltimore was a part of the DMV…the results were mixed….what do you think? After you check out all the love Baltimore gives The Package in the video above, maybe your opinion will be swayed!
The Package made the first strike in their two stop military campaign in Maryland on Memorial Day. Their second strike is at Club Reality in Baltimore on June 16. The above video is just a snippet of the fun, as they rock “Your Time Is Up” off the forthcoming second Package album and “Final Warning” off of the “Double R: Remixes and Rarities” project, still available for free download at http://www.thepackage.bandcamp.com
All work-safe visuals, so enjoy this one in your cubicle with the headphones plugged in while your supervisor isn’t paying attention. LMAO!
(special shout to Peter Parker for the hilarious “100 of these people are me” retort to Dimes’ joke about the…ahem…modest turnout; add him as a friend on Twitter (click his name), his tweets are just as funny as his audience participation…LOL…tell him The Package sent ya….)
(extra special shoutout to DJ P-Funk, the promoter who brought The Package out to their first big show in Maryland, opening for Camp Lo back in the day…we randomly ran into P Funk at a gas station in Anne Arundel County on our way back to DC and he said he was down to get us some more Baltimore area shows…thank him for showing love to us when you see him…)
