Your Favorite Bloggers’ Favorite Rappers: The Package!

Melanie Fiona and Noyeek…

I wonder if he wrote this song from the Double R with her in mind?

As soon as I took this flick, I knew it would be a good year for us…beauty is a good luck charm, so Grizz standing next to her must have surely been a good omen. LOL. Sure enough, the year ended strong with LOADS of critical love in the blogsphere for the “Double R: Remixes and Rarities” project (which you can still download for free right here), including an extraordinary review by the newly revamped Start of the Line blog (welcome back to the blogosphere, homie!) as well as love from heavyweight bloggers such as the Okayplayer-approved good folk at rappersiknow.com (Jamie B and FWMJ, what up!) and SOHH founder’s eponymous blog kevinnottingham.com

(12/27 update: Flawless Hustle also joined the Double R party; thank you for the love as well!)

Endless respect to the early adopters who hopped onto the Double R movement when it first dropped just three weeks ago: DJ HeatRule 4080, Inner LoopFor The DMV Only and Upset the Setup. Thanks y’all!

You really can’t get enough shots of Ms. Melanie Fiona in your life, so I might as well hit you off with another…

Roc Nation, what up! Tell Hov to holla at us, man! LOL…

ps: I also had loads of fun rhyming at Bohemian Caverns tonight…respect to Mental Stamina…Dimes jumped on stage for an impromptu battle session…niceness! Anyone with video or photos, please holla….

Video Killed The Radio Star: Loads of New Package Videos

For the folks who have been neglecting to check our video section, we’ve got loads of new video footage of The Package tearing down various stages, like the one above at the Black L.U.V. Festival this past September. I’m going to be searching the ‘net today to see if I can find footage of their shows in Atlanta and Richmond (both shows that I missed, unfortunately). Enjoy the footage above and, as always, I also urge you to check out their recently released remix album, which can be downloaded for free at http://tinyurl.com/pkgrmx

ps: And last but most definitely NOT least, a bit of meditative mood music for this snowy day, allow us to (re-)present a special tribute to our fallen comrade Joy Oliver of the Amphibians family: mother of four, bringer of light, still shining…please take a listen to her song “Crystal Moon”, recorded shortly before she was taken from us, to shine above us: http://www.divshare.com/download/9838267-443

The Package Rocked the 930 Club with Raekwon!

update: The show went well. The Package got to rock four songs (Final Warning, What You Sipping On, Here I Am and Lights), the last two of which were a medley due to the limited time in their short set. The crowd showed a lot of love and Dimes made sure to urge everyone to come to this fine site of ours so that folk could  download our remix album assuming you haven’t already! So, after you click the lovely blue link in the prior sentence and dig on the sounds of The Package as remixed by some of the area’s best producers, you can marvel at the fact that you received this joyous gift for Free.99! Nothing beats FREE MUSIC in a recession, especially when it’s outrageously dope. :-)

side note 1: The footage above isn’t ideal because I was not able to secure a video pass beforehand and had to shoot guerilla-style.

side note 2: Does anyone know why Noreaga didn’t make it to the performance?

Double R: Remix and Rarities Album is HERE

The Package’s “Double R: Remixes and Rarities” project can be downloaded for Free.99 right HERE! This very special project features contributions from the DMV’s finest, including: Kev Brown, J-$crilla, Kokayi, DJ Eurok and Drew_Kid, E-Minah, Krayola, Enoch 7th Prophet, Laelo Hood, Head Roc, Pure Fiya, Nazz, Nicole Rumeau, Jack Danger, and Spirit Equality*. It’s a DMV family affair and we’ve giving it to the world as a special “thank you” to everyone who has supported The Package and the New Golden Era movement so far! We love all of y’all! Extra special love to everyone who contributed to each song on the project. Some of the tracks are remixes from originals featured on the “New Golden Era” album (still on iTunes *smile*), while the rarities are either exclusives from upcoming solo records from Dimes and Grizz that you will hear in radically different form on those respective projects (e.g. Miss Yum Yum) or songs you never would have heard otherwise in any form (e.g. Dimes 10.0). Theory mixed the entire project to perfection.

* On “Salute”, but uncredited.

Special shout to DJ Heat, Rule 4080, and Inner Loop for being the first bloggers to show love to this project. For The DMV Only and Upset the Setup also showed love. Thanks y’all!

DMV Love,

Spirit Equality

Final Warning! The DMV is Taking Over!

“Final Warning”, Theory’s incendiary re-working of the original “Warning”, both of which feature Enoch 7th Prophet can now be downloaded or streamed here

This is the second leak off of “Double R: Remixes and Rarities”, the remix album form The Package that will be available for free download in just a few more weeks! Producers who have contributed remixes so far include Kev Brown, J-$crilla, E-Minah and Theory and Dimes of The Package themselves, with several other producers including ID 4 Windz (of Scienz of Life) and Jay Mills are slated to contribute as well.

This DMV anthem is particularly timely, since the DMV just took a massive step forward as DMV vets Team Demo recently produced “Crime Wave”, a new buzz single for 50 Cent! The Internet is going crazy praising the production on the track and Jady Experience of Team Demo has been showered with props on his Twitter page. Congrats, fam!

The Package & J-$crilla Bring You The Uncut Raw

Fresh off the acclaim from his own “Culture of Honor” CD (featuring DMV heavyweights alongside more established artists from other areas like Cassidy and JR Writer), J-$crilla brings the heat by remixing “The Drug” from The Package’s debut album, “New Golden Era”. This is the first teaser track to leak from the forthcoming free download album “Double R: Remixes and Rarities” that we will be dropping later this fall. Yet more classic music and another show of DMV unity featuring the PKG family! Stream the song below or download here! Big up to the blogs who have given us love so far, Rule4080 and Inner Loop Uncut (looking forward to more!)

newgoldenera.com brings it to you live with DJ Clark Kent

Grizz of The Package/newgoldenera.com filmed my interview with the legendary DJ Clark Kent here. There was a lot of background noise since we were in a club, so it’s a little hard to hear my questions (I asked: (1) What was your role with Original Flavor?, (2) What was your role in the song “Can I Get Open?” featuring Jay-Z, and (3) What was your experience working with Jay, Biggie and Rakim?). Big up to the three very cool publicity sisters Grizz and I met for setting up the media meet and greet with this legendary vet at the Heineken Red Star Soul event at Ibiza.

Grizz also got a chance to catch a flick with the legend as well:

And for those new jacks who forgot who DJ Clark Kent was, he produced this classic:

Luda Shows The DMV Why We Should Call Him The Best Out

Three great publicists (Kourtney, Lauren and S. Bitting) facilitated getting me and Grizz into the media event at the Heineken Red Star Soul tour stop in the DMV at Ibiza. I got to ask Luda how he could prove he’s the best ever, since he has displayed loads of style and wit since his debut but never received much critical acclaim. His stage show later that night served as a de facto answer to my question. In light of that, I edited my question and his stage show together, so Luda could make his own case for why he should be called the best ever. Take a look and tell us what you think! Is Luda the best mainstream MC out now?

Special shout out to Grizz (of The Package) and Laelo Hood for coming through to help out. My interview with DJ Clark Kent (featuring Grizz’s camera work debut) coming soon…

DMV Love,

Spirit Equality

Cipher w/Laelo Hood, Mental Stamina, Spirit Equality, & Pro’Verb

The legendary DMV radio show, “Ill Street Grooves” (which airs every Monday, 10-11pm, WPFW-FM 89.3 and streams live at wpfw.org) sets it off with an incendiary freestyle cipher featuring (in order of appearance) Laelo Hood, Mental Stamina (of Rosetta Stoned), Spirit Equality, and Pro’Verb.

Also in the studio were Ill Street Grooves‘ main host Buddha Bless of acrossthefader.com, DJ RBI on the wheels of steel and not on the mic but in the studio that night were additional special guests Lord Vada of Equinox PROfessionals and Aychell a.k.a. Blackberry Jones of the Black Lincolns (Asheru, Heron Gibran and Aychell). 100% off the top lyrical stylings.

Unfortunately you can’t hear the beats (they’re playing through the emcees’ headphones) but the instrumentals being ripped were “Twins (Deep Cover 98)” (Big Pun feat. Fat Joe) and Synopsis (E-Rule), the latter of which is a West Coast underground gem and the former which is of course an East Coast classic over a classic West Coast beat. Pro’Verb is on the West Coast now as a featured act on the Rock The Bells tour when it hits LA and San Francisco, so enjoy this taste of DC/MD/VA talent before the whole world catches on to what DC hip-hop and the DMV is cooking! I’m holding the camera, so the angle when I start freestyling is mostly the bottom of my face. My bad! LOL.

(the microphone is blocking Pro’Verb’s face too! Don’t blame me, I just bought this camera! LOL)

None of us were prepped to rhyme, but like veteran freestylers, we went in anyway!

It’s a new golden era! Best of the classics, here in the now!

All my ATL area folk, come see The Package rock at the Happily Natural Day Festival next Saturday at the South Cobb Recreational Center, 875 Six Flags Drive, Austell GA 30168, 11am-7pm

Peace to the Peaceful,

Spirit Equality
