Grizz of The Package/newgoldenera.com filmed my interview with the legendary DJ Clark Kent here. There was a lot of background noise since we were in a club, so it’s a little hard to hear my questions (I asked: (1) What was your role with Original Flavor?, (2) What was your role in the song “Can I Get Open?” featuring Jay-Z, and (3) What was your experience working with Jay, Biggie and Rakim?). Big up to the three very cool publicity sisters Grizz and I met for setting up the media meet and greet with this legendary vet at the Heineken Red Star Soul event at Ibiza.
Grizz also got a chance to catch a flick with the legend as well:
And for those new jacks who forgot who DJ Clark Kent was, he produced this classic:
As you can see in the video above, The Package had a ball rocking the National Mall this past July 4th with special guests/comrades Laelo Hood and Enoch 7th Prophet at the 40th Annual National Smoke-In.
Now Operation: Spread DMV Love continues as we launch our effort to expose our recent collaboration with Laelo Hood (Inner Loop Records) and 2009 Grammy nominee Kokayi (QN5 Music) entitled “The Crucible” to the MTV2 audience.
(STOP THE PRESSES! The censors in the contest apparently have decided that The Crucible violates the requirements of the contest. We’re trying to create a clean version which better conforms with their standards, but until that song goes up, PLEASE vote for The Package to be included on Russ Parr’s Bus Tour here: http://www.ourstage.com/contests/3219-russ-bus-tour-dc (Our song “Making Waves” is currently ranked at # 14, but hopefully all of you can help vote us to the top! Thank you!)
We will edit this news entry again when a clean version of “The Crucible” has been uploaded for you to vote on again at http://www.ourstage.com/contests/3180-mtv-vma-best-breakout-dc
ETERNAL THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO VOTED THE FIRST TIME AROUND!
After all, “The Crucible” was just added Monday night and, in 24 hours, votes from all of you pushed The Package into the top 5 out of 98 entries!!!! Till the clean version is re-uploaded to the MTV contest, you can still vote for the dirty version of “The Crucible” at http://www.ourstage.com/contests/3100-hip-hop in the hip-hop contest ($5,000 awarded every month to the number one contender in each genre).
Thanks!!!!!

update: The show went great!!!! The place was packed, the energy was awesome and every performer gave his all. Special big up to the brother from Zimbabwe Legit, Pro’Verb, Lyricist, Head-Roc, Krayola (who brought The Package onstage to rock their collabo song, “Mr. Dynamite” from the free Resilience album), Watusi and Rizion. Forgive me if I forgot anyone, I stayed up all night after the show. There were also two reggae artists who performed after The Package’s headlining set, an elder and a youth, but my memory for names is awful. Their short sets were a good encore/closer for the night. Did I mention the ladies in the house looked gorgeous? Wowzers. DJ Earth 1 and DJ Soyo repped the feminine energy in hip-hop culture lovely on the wheels of steel, playing nonstop bangers!
The music video “Warning” (view here in higher HD quality) just won Best Video at the DMV EMAs (DC//Maryland/Virginia Entertainment and Music Awards); the song is a joint collaboration between producer Surock, The Package, Enoch, Kokayi (on the hook), Grap Luva, and Nas Jota (the video director). We humbly accept this recognition of our work, because we miraculously beat out heavy competition with serious buzz like Wale (nominated for “Nike Boots”) and several other DMV notables (big up to all the nominees). Thank you to everyone who supported the video.
The Package will also be rocking their first show in Baltimore on Friday, April 17, opening up for veteran hip-hop act Camp Lo at Sonar (407 E. Saratoga St, Baltimore MD). E Major and The Equation are our fellow openers. $12 in advance/$15 at the door. We hope to see a massive DMV turnout in B-More to welcome us to Charm City.
We will be rocking a festival performance on May 2, at the Worldwide Marijuana March (a marijuana decriminalization event) at Malcolm X Park (a/k/a Meridian Hill Park) at 16th & Euclid St NW. Starting at
2pm, going till 6pm. FREE. Hope to see you all out there.
Our next festival date will be July 4th on the National Mall. More details on that and the half dozen other shows we have lined up in the near future are available at http://newgoldenera.com/?page_id=33
Thanks to everyone who supports The Package. We appreciate each and every one of you.

This album that stirs 2 parts forward thinking hip-hop with a dash of nostalgia to create ‘New Golden Era’. Nearly every track on here showcases a different side of their sound (The Drug might be my favorite song to reference Pancho Villa) and the different styles of each of the groups three members, Dimes, Theory & Noyeek
One of the recent tracks, ‘Making Waves’ has just been remixed by Kev Brown and is getting spins from Pete Rosenberg on his late night Hot 97 show… matter of fact the track impressed Rosenberg so much he ended up directing the video. Myspace blurb, track, and behind-the-scenes video to follow - keep an eye on these cats… I’m feeling this shit a lot.
