The song is “This Is Me” from our first album “New Golden Era”, a slick Theory-produced joint with timeless appeal. D.C. is a beautiful city and the video was shot in one day in some of our favorite spots. Happy Monday!! Me(Theory), Dimensions and Noyeek try to make music every Monday…If nothing else we build our friendship and skills with these sessions, and, for the first time, you get to sit in. I’m on my new toy, a sick drum pad, groovin with the sticks and foot pedal to a dope cover of The Carpenters “We’ve only just begun”. Dimension and Grizz light it up with some verses…It’s worth a look! No practice..I threw the camera up and pressed record… Let us know what you think! This could be the new Monday tradition! Brooklynites and a nice-sized contigent of DMV fans who made the up north trip showed love to The Package at this event in Brooklyn. This was The Package’s second show in New York and we received a warm welcome and had a great time!
Shout out to the other performers of the night, LeJae (NYC) and Goon Squad (DMV), who performed in that order, with The Package closing out the night. Both acts had very supportive fans who stayed most of the night (a nice departure from the unfortunate case when fans leave after their favorite act finishes).
And the PKG-mix onslaught continues!
Theory has masterfully reworked the original sample Dilla used to craft Busta Rhymes’ “Show Me What You Got” from his “Anarchy” album (an underrated gem in the Dilla catalog) to produce a remix for The Package’s “This is Me”, off of their debut album, “New Golden Era”. “This Is Me (Theory loves Dilla remix)” will be released as part of the “All The Way To Heaven” EP, comprised of songs where Theory revisits samples from overlooked gems in the Dilla catalog and puts them in a new context via remixed songs by his group, The Package. A love letter to Dilla in heaven from us mere mortals still striving to keep the tradition alive in his absence…

In the video above, The Package jams with Mambo Sauce, one of the leading go-go bands in the city. The two groups have never rocked together and it’s a great meeting between two powerful representatives of the city’s two main urban genres: go-go and hip-hop. The songs rocked are “Final Warning” (off of “Double R: Remixes and Rarities“) and “Lights” (off of Noyeek’s forthcoming second solo album, “Eartertainment”, coming later this year).
It’s beautiful how the band quickly adapts to a song they’ve never rehearsed, with Twink adding some cool drum hits to punctuate the chorus of “Final Warning”.
Attentive listeners will note that The Package is somewhat hilariously introduced by the name of their Twitter account, ThePackageDC.
Awesome to hear someone behind me say “That was one of the dopest…” behind me as the set ends. Ha-ha! Big up to whoever that was, glad you enjoyed the show!
This all went down at the Up and Up Showcase, which hits Liv (2001 11th St NW, 11th and U) every Tuesday night, show starting at 8:30 (happy hour 6-8), put on by the highly underrated superb hip-hop trio Gods’illa. Support those brothers, it’s a great event (they also just put out a very high quality debut album you should peep). Big up to the featured act of the night, NYC band Shinobi Ninja, and the other performers that rocked throughout the night, including Maimouna Youssef (nominated for a Grammy for her vocal work on The Roots’ “Don’t Feel Right”), Komplex a/k/a Kowboy Kom (of Fly Gypsy) and Tamika Jones.
The Package dropped “Double R: Remixes and Rarities” right after Thanksgiving to give thanks to everyone who has supported our movement since “New Golden Era” dropped. Over 1,000 downloads in just over three months later, we’ll be putting the final touches on Dimes’ solo album “SLANGUAGe (a brain cell.e.bration)” this week. So, get ready for a PKG takeover in 2010!
The brothers will performing tomorrow night at the Up and Up Showcase at Liv (2001 11th St NW, WDC), then two weeks later right next door at Bohemian Caverns, on March 23rd (for the Beat Clash/Mic Clash event). That second show at Bohemian is on my birthday, so I hope everyone can make it out!

This is the second leak off of “Double R: Remixes and Rarities”, the remix album form The Package that will be available for free download in just a few more weeks! Producers who have contributed remixes so far include Kev Brown, J-$crilla, E-Minah and Theory and Dimes of The Package themselves, with several other producers including ID 4 Windz (of Scienz of Life) and Jay Mills are slated to contribute as well.
This DMV anthem is particularly timely, since the DMV just took a massive step forward as DMV vets Team Demo recently produced “Crime Wave”, a new buzz single for 50 Cent! The Internet is going crazy praising the production on the track and Jady Experience of Team Demo has been showered with props on his Twitter page. Congrats, fam!

Grizz of The Package/newgoldenera.com filmed my interview with the legendary DJ Clark Kent here. There was a lot of background noise since we were in a club, so it’s a little hard to hear my questions (I asked: (1) What was your role with Original Flavor?, (2) What was your role in the song “Can I Get Open?” featuring Jay-Z, and (3) What was your experience working with Jay, Biggie and Rakim?). Big up to the three very cool publicity sisters Grizz and I met for setting up the media meet and greet with this legendary vet at the Heineken Red Star Soul event at Ibiza.
