Next Friday February 4th at Ras (4809 Georgia Ave NW), The Package will be rocking a fundraiser for PKG co-owner Alan Page (a/k/a Spirit, lovingly dubbed “The Suit”), who is on a quest to become an at-large city councilperson in DC! This would be a huge step forward for the music community in Washington DC and for youth/progressive politics in general. Alan is running as the sole Green Party candidate against seventeen Democrats, one party-nonaffliated Independent and one Republican. The special election is April 26th, but the party is February 4th! DC hip-hop veterans Head Roc and Born I (also known as Born Infinite) will also be rocking the stage! It’s all a part of the Uptown Friday Nights series that links progressive musicians with progressive causes!
We’re facing a $600 million budget shortfall, but we can’t balance the budget on the backs of the poor. We can also make our tax system more fair, so that those earning $41,000/year aren’t in the same tax bracket as those earning $41 billion/year (as is the case now). We all have to share the pain to share the gain. Let’s work together to save our (d)iverse (c)ity!
